Although you will get a packet of information from your study abroad programs upon arrival, below are 10 tips I wish I'd known before studying abroad. They are:
- Learn about the different exchange rates and what they mean.
- Use Skype to stay in touch with family and friends.
- Ask for student discounts everywhere you go.
- Carry a Tube map whenever you're traveling around the city.
- Try to take classes on Tuesday's, Wednesday's, and Thursday's so you can have a four day weekend to travel and sightsee
- Buying certain clothes and items upon arrival is better than overpacking.
- Take lots of pictures. You want to capture the moments that will last a lifetime.
- Act like a local and don't reinforce the negative stereotypes of Americans. Learn from your mistakes.
- People drive on the left side of the road…know which way to look before crossing!
**There is no such thing as “jaywalking.”
- There will be good days and bad days. Studying abroad is a very exciting time, but be prepared to be occasionally homesick.
Live in the moment…this experience will change your life forever!
