Top Ten Tips

Although you will get a packet of information from your study abroad programs upon arrival, below are 10 tips I wish I'd known before studying abroad. They are:

  1. Learn about the different exchange rates and what they mean.
  2. Use Skype to stay in touch with family and friends.
  3. Ask for student discounts everywhere you go.
  4. Carry a Tube map whenever you're traveling around the city.
  5. Try to take classes on Tuesday's, Wednesday's, and Thursday's so you can have a four day weekend to travel and sightsee
  6. Buying certain clothes and items upon arrival is better than overpacking.
  7. Take lots of pictures. You want to capture the moments that will last a lifetime.
  8. Act like a local and don't reinforce the negative stereotypes of Americans. Learn from your mistakes.
  9. People drive on the left side of the road…know which way to look before crossing!
**There is no such thing as “jaywalking.”
  10. There will be good days and bad days. Studying abroad is a very exciting time, but be prepared to be occasionally homesick.
Live in the moment…this experience will change your life forever!
